Masjidul Ghamama (مسجد الغمامة)

Places related to Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam are considered having keen importance. There are so many such places in and around Makkah and Madinah. Khaleefa Umar bin Abdul Aziz during his rule he ordered to construct Masjids in all places where Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam had prayed.

So a Masjid was constructed in place where Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam prayed for rain and got answer immediately. It is mentioned in Books of Hadith that inhabitants of Madinah appealed Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam on lack of water and their sufferings for it. So Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam summoned people and did Istisqa’ prayer (صلوة الاستسقاء) and suddenly the clear sky was covered by rain clouds and it started raining immediately. Subhana Allah…

This Masjid is known as Masjidul Ghamama, as the word ghamama means cloud. It was later renovated by Sultan Abdul Majeed Al Uthmani and recently by King Fahad bin Abdul Azeez Al Saud. This Masjid is in right front corner of Masjid Al Nabavi some 300 meters away from current gate to courtyard of the Masjid.
